I have been working on organizing the Hill family reunion this summer for several months now. We’ve been getting together bi-annually for over a decade now I believe, and this is the first time that I’ve been the “PM” for this important family tradition. My Aunt Judy and Uncle Ed had been hosting and planning the seminal event, but the time for someone from my generation had come to take up the torch. It just seemed to make sense that I should do it, and I suppose no one else spoke up!

Although I didn’t make a project timeline and open up ProWorkFlow or Basecamp to log hours, the process has been a lesson in how Project Management is just another “life skill” that we all must have a basic knowledge of. Communicating through various channels including email, phone, Facebook, and Twitter; keeping track of the rooms and resouces needed for everybody; and making sure that the “account” is in order. Taking care of details and multi-tasking around daily tasks and obstacles- how could I get anything done without these skills!
