This has really been a strange holiday season. From the economy (stupid) to family and friends being in the hospital, from the changes in the holiday schedule to the December ballet craziness, my head has been spinning for weeks now. If you’re reading this, then I made it!
So did you. Congratulations!
Oh, and just when you think Christmas is nigh upon us, little did you realize that our family holidays will extend through the new year to January 9th: all of three weeks. Tonight we have the first family get together at my parents’ house, then we’ll have our own homespun event, off to Richmond for Shadle Xmas I & II, and Johnson family Christmas to finish the week. After a brief hietus and a soon-to-be-forgotten New Year, we’ll head down to St. Louis and have a shebang with my brother Mark and his family. I think it’s this last event that I’m looking forward to the most, not only because we’ll get to see Molly Leanna (forgive me if that’s mis-spelled), the newest member of the family, but also because it’s a more isolated event not in the midst of the holiday craziness this week. time to breathe…
I’m starting to accept that Christmas isn’t about us any more: it’s for the kids. For our generation, that’s a hard thing to get over, since we’re so used to being spoiled by or parents and the center of the universe all of the time. Now we get to watch the center of the universe light up, which isn’t so darned bad after all!
And for myself, I got the gift of saying “yes” to being an elder at my church, Saint Andrew. It’s going to be a wild ride, I’m sure. I do recall having gone to the Presbytery in Louisville, KY, although I’m going to have to seriously brush up on the Presby forms of government. Having worked in sales and marketing for my entire career thusfar, I hope that experience might help us to breathe new life into our organization. I certainly have high aspiritions for my role, as friends and family who’ve helped me make the decision can surely confirm. Thanks to all on the nominating committe who thought of me, and also to those whose advice I sought.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good… month? Enh… good enough.

Is it just me or is this month crazy? Our family calendar looks like the crazy writings of the dad in the Shining. Ballet, ballet, volunteer, ballet, party, concert, ballet, church, ballet, Christmas, Christmas, Christmas, etc.
I’m extremely lucky to have a highly organized wife!
Christmas shopping is 95% done.
Its time for marathons of A Christmas Story and family madness, ho ho ho!
